In what seems to be a roller coaster of an offseason for J.K. Dobbins, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta feels all is on track for the young running back.
"We've always had a deep admiration for J.K.," shared DeCosta in a Friday press interaction. "On the field, he embodies a fighter's spirit, playing through injuries whenever possible. But it’s not just about his skill – his leadership, his energy, the respect he garners from his peers, it's unmatched. He's looking fitter than ever this season, and we can't wait to see him in action." While Dobbins stayed away from early August practices, creating a buzz around his contract renewal, DeCosta remained tight-lipped on the specifics. Yet, he did hint at the possibility of a long-term deal. "Our policy has always been to keep these negotiations private. However, J.K.'s commitment to the Ravens is evident, and we value him immensely. Our history speaks for itself – we strive to retain our players, and J.K. is no different." Lamar Jackson’s Growth: DeCosta’s Observations DeCosta also took a moment to appreciate the evolution of quarterback Lamar Jackson. "Lamar's zest this offseason has been commendable," remarked DeCosta. "Free from contract negotiations, he's been laser-focused on training and fostering relationships with our new receivers." Under the guidance of Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken, Jackson seems to be embracing the desire for a faster tempo this season. The addition of star wide receivers like Odell Beckham Jr., Zay Flowers, and Nelson Agholor further boosts his artillery. "I can sense Lamar’s excitement about the new offense. The camaraderie he’s built with his coaches and receivers during this offseason will surely reflect on the field," said a confident DeCosta. Three Quarterbacks: A Strategic Move Addressing another hot topic, the recent signing of Josh Johnson, DeCosta shed light on the Ravens' unique decision to maintain three quarterbacks this season. With Tyler Huntley's participation uncertain due to a hamstring injury and Johnson's impressive preseason performance, DeCosta believes this move will strengthen the team's position. "Our priority is to retain all our key players," DeCosta explained. "Both Josh and Huntley have demonstrated their prowess on the field, and we’re confident in our strong quarterback lineup." DeCosta was quick to dismiss the rumors surrounding a potential trade for quarterback Trey Lance, terming it as "baseless reporting." "In this training camp, our focus was never to add new quarterbacks. We're content and trust the abilities of the quarterbacks we have," DeCosta concluded. *Ravens fans can look forward to an exhilarating season ahead as the team gears up with renewed energy and commitment.*
